“Uai”

Uai! Uai is Uai uai!

The origin no ones knows for sure. Exist some reports that is linked to the presence of English people in Brazil especially here in Minas Gerais. No other state say this expression here! Just the mineiros says!

The “Uai” is normally usual to express surprise or astonishment at a slight resuscitation doubt.

The word “uai” have the same sound of “why”. Probably thats why have the association with the English people what lived here in colonial Brasil.

Example:

– “Uai! Mas quando nós vamos?” (Uai! But when we go?)

Paulistas people (who was born in São Paulo, another brazilian’s state) like to use the expression “meu”, but this is another topic 😉
Its like a slung! Like “you know” in english but not with the same mean. Its a complement for the sentence!

Then we use Uai for everything uai! Because uai is uai, uai!!!
